KITAID REACHES THE KIDS ALIVE PROJECT, ETHIOPIA

On 14th August, 9 volunteers, 7 from Northern Ireland and 2 from London, set off for Bekoji in Ethiopia, 9 hours east of Addis Ababa to visit the Kids Alive school in the town.

Many sports were played including rounders, football and ultimate frisbee. A game which was definitely new to Ethiopia was one which came to be known as 'Extreme Ball'. This involved a large exercise ball, very few rules and around 20 children in each team!

On the final day, the children took part in a sports day finale which was a great success. After they had all eaten lunch they were presented with gifts from the Kids Alive team. The gifts were schoolbags full of goodies like pens, pencils, juice, biscuits and even a wind-up torch each! Each child also received a t-shirt or football top donated by KitAid which many of them were incredibly excited about! There were even enough kits to donate a set to the headmaster of the school to use as an official team kit.

789 BOXES OF KIT SENT SO FAR THIS YEAR

Thanks to everyone for your help with boxing up today.

It was good to see Tania Boltonand it is always nice to see our Regional Co-ordinators attending as they mostly have to travel long distances. Good also to see John Maxwell who covers Swindon/Birmingham and Tim who covers Bishops Stortford.

Well the fantastic news is that we have broken all previous records as after today’s session we have now sent out 789 boxes in 2010, compared to last year’s record of 750. This works out to 27,615 items of kit and we still have 3 months of the year to go. Let’s see if we can reach 1,000!

112 boxes were sent out today, destined for Burkina Faso, Burundi, The Gambia, South Africa, Ghana and Eastern Europe. Not bad for 2.5 hours work so well done and thank to everyone.
