  • We appeared on the BBC News during the trip as Mark Robson of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation was interviewed
  • We were featured in the Mail on Sunday, Daily Star, The Sun and many regional newspapers during the trip
  • The hard court sports arena we funded was officially opened in March 2010 in Sierra Leone
  • We sponsored the Ballysillan YFC Football Camp in Belfast
  • We have increased the number of Regional Co-ordinators we have but are always looking for more!
  • We have received continued support from PUMA UK as well as other manufacturers such as The Great Branding Company, Tempest Sports, DPM Sports and Kitlocker
  • We have also received tremendous support from:  Liverpool FC, Watford FC, Tranmere Rovers FC, Partick Thistle FC, Stenhousemuir FC, Bishop’s Stortford FC, Chesham United FC, fc United of Manchester, Witton Albion FC, Loordswood United FC, Sheffield FC, Fleet Town FC and many hundreds of “grass roots” clubs from all across the UK
We would  like to thank our Patron, Graham Taylor OBE, for his continued support.

Thanks to all of our volunteers today who joined us for our final boxing up session of the year.  It was a great way to end a record breaking year for KitAid.

We should start a sweepstake in January but if we had one at the start of this year I don’t think we could have predicted that we would finish 2010 by sending out a record breaking 963 boxes.  This amounts to 33,705 items of kit that we have received, sorted and boxed up.  A fantastic achievement and really good fun as well.  Incredible to think of 33,705 smiles across the world.

Today’s session resulted in kit being delivered to Tanzania, Ghana, Burundi, Mauritius, Ukraine, Gambia and Eritrea.

Special thanks to Sean and Paul who had to unload 4,000 footballs and then load 25 boxes on to the 5speed lorry.  We now have over 6,000 footballs in stock which should keep us going for the next few years.

At the next session we will have some volunteers from the University of Herts, which should help and we may even stretch to two boxing up sessions per month.

Thanks for all your help in 2010 and have a fantastic Christmas

CHARITIES COLLABORATE TO HELP COMMUNITIES

This week KitAid received a huge donation of footballs from Mando, Aylesbury.  The balls had originally been donated to assist small charity, Greenfields Africa, which seeks to help people living in poverty in poor African townships. They had ample to meet their needs and kindly offered to share the footballs with us.  So we're 3,000 footballs better off and very pleased as we know how much the children love them.

To date Greenfields have built a church and community centre, which contains a permanent eye clinic and several soup kitchens, along with decent housing, communal washrooms etc., in the Greenfields Township of South Africa.

The also support the George Football League, which is open to all young people and is particularly supportive of young people in the Thembalethu Township.
